Bailiff industry booming!

In the aftermath of the credit crunch and still not free from the shackles of one of the worst recessions in recent times, there is one industry that has been going from strength to strength. Whether its council tax arrears, unpaid court fines or High Court writs, there are billions of pounds worth of debts that need recovering, and subsequently a great demand for good quality enforcement officers to collect them. No longer the reserve of ex-doormen and ‘heavies’, these roles are increasingly being filled by people from professional backgrounds.

Alan, was a sales manager for an Internet company before being made redundant. He made the switch to bailiffing three years ago and says, “There’s a lot of stigma surrounding the industry but a lot of it is unfair. A friend of mine suggested I give it a go as I was desperate for work and I just couldn’t find anything in sales. Now I wish I’d made the switch years ago. My training course was full of people like me, several people with sales backgrounds, a supermarket manager and even a couple of ex-policemen. Since completing my training I’ve never looked back! I’m earning good money, working flexible hours, and every day is different!

Its not for everyone though, industry specialists suggest that one of the most important attributes you need to possess if your going to succeed is confidence. The training is relatively simple so almost anyone can give it a go, but you need to be able to remain calm in situations that can become quite heated. No one will be asked to put themselves in dangerous situations, but you will often find yourself in confrontational ones. Being able to control these environments and use them to your advantage makes the difference between a good bailiff and a great bailiff.
